Conventional Western Medicine refers to medical practices used most often to treat illness, injuries and diseases. Doctors, surgeons, nurses, therapists and pharmacists use use traditional methods, medicines and surgery as preferred but some medical practitioners are beginning to use less traditional practices in addition to Western Medicine. Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), include nutritional therapies, chiropractic treatments, acupuncture and naturopathy. CAM practices are know to be safe, inexpensive and effective as part of overall medical treatment. In fact, some practices once thought of as alternative and complementary has became a part of traditional Western medicine and the hope is that more and more beneficial treatments will be included to help relieve symptoms, combat diseases and improve overall health.

Some CAM Therapies and Treatments

There are many treatments that combat the symptoms of diseases as well as the side effects caused by traditional Western treatments. Three of these alternative and complementary type therapies are:

  • PEMF Therapy – Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) is used for healing bones with a directed pulsed magnetic fields through the injured tissue. The magnetic pulses stimulate healing and several devices have been approved by the FDA as complementary aids for bone repair.
  • Stem Cells Therapy – The body produces billions of stem cells throughout the body that become specialized cells to replace dying cells. The cells become specific to the tissue or organ as new cells and replace damaged or aged cells. Stem cells from bone marrow can be used to heal joints, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bone whether the damage was caused by injury or arthritis.
  • High Dose Vitamin C Therapy– Vitamin C is known to act as an antioxidant and boosts the immune system. Not only does it help to fight off infections, there are no High Dose Vitamin C side effects. It has also been discovered that Vitamin C in high doses kill cancer cells by creating hydrogen peroxide which cuts off their energy supply and kills them outright without harming healthy cells.

Taking Charge of Your Health Care

There are many CAM practices that can be used in conjunction with traditional Western medicines that eliminate symptoms, relieve ailments and improve overall health and well being. Being pro-active in your medical care include maintaining a proper diet, getting enough exercise, getting enough sleep and managing stress. You can also ask your health care providers about treatments and therapies that will improve your general health and overall well being.
