There has been a great deal of contention within the Western medical community in regards to the efficacy of vitamins (specifically Vitamin C) in regards to the treatment of various illnesses. However, there has been some fairly recent clinical studies have shown quite conclusively that high dosages of Vitamin C can indeed have very positive effects. It should here be noted that dosages referred to are those in which the amount of Vitamin C is over one thousand times the RDA recommended daily allowance.

Primary Benefits.

High dose vitamin c benefits encompass a very wide range of health benefits which range from being a positive addition to your beauty regime to helping or even curing very serious health complications. The most common being:

  • Skin care and revitalization
  • Increased energy
  • Immunizing the body against disease

The most striking use, however, for vitamin C is it’s application in regards to the treatment of cancer. This first came to light on a large scale in the 70s when Ewan Cameron who conducted a study that conclusively showed that the intravenous application of massive doses of vitamin C greatly increased the life span of terminal cancer patients.

The ADA also conducted a study on over 2000 severe burn injury patients that proved to be very promising. The patients were all administered via IV vitamin C in 66 kg dosages at intervals every hour for twenty four hours. This study has not been widely replicated and thus is also not very widely accepted.

Side Effects

High dose vitamin C side effects are relatively mild and quite rare, however, there is one side effect which is more common than the rest when taken intravenously. Namely, a infection due to improper administration of the IV itself. This, of course, is not unique to high dose treatment of vitamin C and is a risk of any extensive IV treatment. In very rare cases hemolytic anemia can develop in patients whom possess a G6PD deficiency, however, this condition is easily tested for in pre-operational testing.

Hyperoxaluria (the excessive oxalation of the urine) may also develop in patients treated with IV Vitamin C treatments. This latter condition often leads the individual to develop kidney stones, which in turn, may cause a variety of health problems of varying severity. Lastly, it should be noted that it is possible to die from a overdose of Vitamin C but the amount needed to kill a human being is so ridiculously high that it is nearly impossible to achieve.
