Moxibustion is one of the many therapies in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Chinese believed that if it was burnt on the meridian points of the body then it would stimulate the flow of Qi. Qi was believed to be very vital in achieving self-healing or enhancing wellness. Medical issues were hence attributed to the irregular flow or imbalance of Qi. Therefore, if Qi was stimulated, it would lead to healing or prevention of illnesses. It involved the burning of a mugwort on the acupuncture points of the body. However, in the past, the only kind of moxibustion available was the direct moxibustion that involved leaving a burning mugwort on the body until it burned out on its own. This almost always led to scarring. But, as moxibustion advanced, there were developments that led to non-scarring direct moxibustion and even indirect moxibustion which are much safer.

Other Integrative Therapies

Integrative therapies are very beneficial and they are not limited only to moxibustion and acupuncture. Other naturopathic therapies include:

• Nutrition therapies
Nutrition therapies majorly involve administration of minerals or vitamin iv therapy. They are intended for the purpose of treating deficiencies of nutrients in the body. Some of the most common nutrition therapies are Myers cocktail, milk thistle extract and high vitamin c dose iv. These therapies help in boosting body immunity.

• Stem cell therapy
Stem cell therapy is a form of treatment where cells from one part of the body are administered to an injured part of the body so as to heal it. However, there are some side effects of stem cells transplant is that they could cause an infection

• Platelet rich plasma therapy
This involves the administration of a platelet rich plasma injection to the body. This is with the aim of speeding healing of tissues.

Most of these therapies are non-invasive while others require a minor surgery. However, it should be noted that not all these therapies are for everyone. This is because some people may be allergic to some of the components used or may have conditions that make them unsuitable for the therapy. Therefore, it is important that you consult a physician before taking these treatments. And, if you are eligible, make sure that they are performed by a certified practitioner so as to avoid disappointing results. This especially, in the case of moxibustion and acupuncture or therapies that involve surgery.
