If you have been through a hospital stay, it is likely that you have received some form of medication through an IV. As you are likely to know, an IV is a way to receive medication via the veins or what is known as intravenous. Many a patient has been saved by this very quick form of receiving medication in a medical emergency as opposed to waiting for oral medication to take effect. By delivering various medications through the bloodstream, the IV can be the preferred method of receiving treatment both by the doctor and the patient.

IV Therapy

Some of the most common forms of intravenous therapy that the public is familiar with are for:

  • Blood Transfusions
  • Dehydration
  • Pain Medication
  • Chemotherapy

Patients are used to seeing an IV bag attached to a pole and connected to IV lines that provide a measured ‘drip’ as prescribed by the physician. Its vitally important for the patient to receive the correct amount of medication and more importantly the correct medication.
Despite the effectiveness of medication delivered by IV therapy, there are certain risks that can pose a problem for the patient.

Hypersensitivity is what results when a patient may have allergies to a certain medication. The symptoms could be hives, rash or wheezing.

Infection can occur from a virus, germs or pathogens or bacteria. The signs that can result in the patient include redness and swelling.

Ozone Therapy

An increasingly successful form of IV therapy in America is Ozone Injection Therapy. Ozone therapy was introduced to the United States in the 1980s but has been in use in Europe for over 50 years. Small amounts of ozone gas, which is essentially oxygen, are injected into the body. The reaction of the body to the oxygen can potentially cause it to produce more of its natural regenerative properties. Its purported that ozone only focuses on the diseased cells. It is used in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, AIDS, hepatitis and arthritis.

The benefits of ozone therapy can include:

-Activating the immune system – which is beneficial in the case of infectious diseases

-Can eliminate or reduce chronic pain

-Increase antioxidant defenses

-Increase oxygen uptake in cells

Ozone therapy has been found to be effective in cardiovascular and circulatory diseases as well. Though not for everyone, it’s an alternative for chronic illnesses.
