IV Vitamin C Therapy is used primarily for treating cancer. It helps to eliminate the cancer cells along with radiation and chemotherapy treatment. Unlike chemotherapy and radiation, however, the Vitamin C IV does not harm normal cells. Simultaneously, the Vitamin C does not decrease the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation. The reason that the Vitamin C IV therapy is preferable to taking the oral medication with cancer patients is because the oral medication is an antioxidant rather than a the pro-oxidant that they need in order to implant hydrogen peroxide into the cancerous cells. Any additional vitamins have generally been shown to decrease the effectiveness of the hydrogen peroxide.
Side effects of Vitamin C IV Therapy
IV Vitamin C side effects are generally very rare and usually occur if it’s given in larger doses than the patient is capable of handling. That’s why it is almost always administered in small dosages initially. It was reported only once in 1979 but there were a few cases of hemorrhaging and preceding deaths due to complications from as little as 10 grams of the Vitamin C. Kidney strength is also highly monitored during the patients’ reception of the Vitamin C IV due to a report of a patient having issues with the ability to have proper bowel movements and blockage in urine flow.
A few other side effects that have been found, include:
- Shakiness or ache due to a decrease in the minerals calcium, potassium or chloride. However, this is easily corrected by adjusting the dosage.
- Pain at the injection site due to either the pH balance being too low or injection being in too deep. Again, both can be easily corrected by adjustment of the dosage or needle placement.
- The sodium level could further aggravate other pre-existing conditions such as heart disease or edema. However, these can usually be very closely monitored during the patient’s reception of the Vitamin C therapy.
Vitamin C IV therapy is generally considered to be very safe, however, under certain other pre-existing medical conditions, it needs to be closely monitored. The dosage administration needs to be monitored due to potential kidney or bowel obstruction issues. It has shown much hope in the treatment of patients with cancer. If administered properly, can help them to reach a more natural state of life at a much faster rate. It does not hinder the effects of chemotherapy and radiation but it boosts the white blood cell count. It is also naturally inflammatory and heals surgical and biopsy wounds more quickly.
