Current integrative therapies combine modern conventional medical practices with alternative medicine. Conventional medicine has been developed with a strict scientific approach, while alternative therapies are derived from accumulated knowledge from centuries of healers who honed their skills relying on the natural world and wise observation.

Until recently the two methods were separate and even critical of each other. Modern medicine being considered cold and alternative medicine considered obsolete and ineffective. Luckily for us, the two schools of medicine are now partners utilizing state of the art technologies with down to earth holistic practices.

Integrative treatment begins with the concept that people have their own innate healing abilities. Using known and safe alternative treatments like acupuncture, reflexology, yoga, diet and others, alternative treatment deals with the whole person and, if needed incorporates advanced surgical or discovery tactics like x-rays or brain scans provided by conventional methods.

Types of Integrative Therapy

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for centuries, and is widely used with excellent results. The thinking is that our bodies have fields of energy and if the energy is blocked, we become sick. In order to unblock the energy pathways, the thinnest of needles are inserted into channel points in the body. This process is actually painless (and I say that from experience).

Ayurvedic Medicine comes from India, and has also been practiced for centuries. As in all holistic approaches, the emphasis is on the balance of the whole person. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on nutrition, yoga and meditation as well as massage and philosophy.

Alternative medicine always does address the balance between the body, mind and spirit with may methods to explore and consider.

Other methods include:

  • Reflexology
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Chrystal Therapy
  • Music Therapy
  • Massage
