After being hit by a car while riding his bicycle, my husband, Shawn, came home from the hospital with seven broken ribs, a broken scapula and clavicle, and a traumatic brain injury. He couldn’t walk or talk, and I didn’t know what to do. His injuries weren’t the type that could be fixed by surgery or casts. To make matters worse, the discs in his neck and back were compressed causing him further pain.
I called my husband’s chiropractor, who was well versed in the areas of traditional Chinese medicine (a broad range of medical practices developed in China more than 2,000 years ago, including various forms of herbal medicine, massage, acupuncture, dietary therapy, and exercise), as well as ayurvedic medicine, which is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed thousands of years ago on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.

Healers Have Used Massage Therapy for Thousands of Years

Once my husband’s chiropractor overcame the shock of seeing the state he was in, she used her hands to gently massage his neck and back, which allowed the tense muscles to relax. Once the tight muscles relaxed, the bones moved back to the places they used to be in – the places they naturally wanted to return to. Within two weeks he was walking. It was fascinating to watch how the bones realigned themselves, as Shawn returned three times a week over the next six months.
Massage therapy was the key to Shawn’s healing. Doctors, friends, and family were amazed at how fast he was able to help his body heal, and even return to work after only six months. Shawn also benefited from using:

  • X-rays (which showed the chiropractor and masseuse which areas needed to be massaged, realigned and manipulated).
  • Integrated therapy, which is child, adolescent, and adult therapy solutions for occupational therapy, learning disabilities, ADHD, and speech problems.
  • Nutroceutical therapy.
  • Alkalinizing his system.
  • Pain medications.

Doctors Were Shocked by the Outcome

It’s been fourteen months since the accident, and Shawn is beginning to run, doing Cross Fit exercise classes, and continuing to use massage therapy, chiropractic care, and traditional Chinese practices to aid his recovery.
