There are some treatments that should be used with chemotherapy either to protect the patient or to enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Here you can read about some procedures used for such purposes. However, it should be noted that there are cases where some procedures conflict with chemotherapy and they should not be used in such situations.

NFB Brain Therapy

Many are wondering what is Neurofeedback therapy? NFB, also known as neurotherapy, is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity through EEG in order to teach self-regulation of brain function. Sensors are normally placed on a person’s scalp to measure activity, and the results are shown on a video display. According to some pilot studies, the therapy has the potential to alleviate or even reverse the cognitive impairment associated with chemotherapy. Patients using NFB showed significant improvements in cognitive function, quality of life, perceived impairment, use of sleep medications, and depression over the course of 3 testing phases.

Milk Thistle

This is a plant whose above ground parts and seeds are used to make medicine. It is most often used for treating some mushroom poisoning cases and liver disorders like liver chemical damage, jaundice, chronic inflammatory liver disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and chronic hepatitis. Milk thistle is also used for treating loss of appetite.

Certain chemicals in milk thistle might lower blood sugar in people with diabetes. It may also cause Milk thistle extract benefits side effects:

  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • bloating
  • gas
  • upset stomach

If you are a pregnant or a breastfeeding woman, or if you have a ragweed allergy, you should avoid milk thistle. Also, milk thistle plant extract might enhance the effects of estrogen. If you have any condition that might be made worse by exposure to estrogen, do not use the extract. These hormone-sensitive conditions include breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis and uterine fibroids.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is used to hyper-oxygenate the blood, but the process of ozonating also oxidizes the blood, which results in producing a number of beneficial elements for the patients. The amount of oxygen increases, and it also creates a very good amount of hydrogen peroxide that promotes apoptosis (death) of the malignant cell and is a very important immune stimulating process. The other thing that it does is helping vessels open up, and red blood cells can then enter and oxygenate the tumor. Ozone side effects can include elevated blood and ear pressure similar to that experienced when flying or being on a high altitude.
