Chelation therapy: It is a chemical process in which a chelating agent is administered through a medical procedure to remove heavy metals from the body. Chelation is a process which means bind or grab and synthetic chelating agents EDTA are injected into the blood stream intravenously which bind to the heavy metals and minerals and are removed out of the body using this therapy. This therapy remains in use for specific medical treatments and has a long history of use in clinical toxicology. Due to its inherent risks the chelation therapy can be administered only under the medical supervision.
How chelation therapy began: Chelation therapy is particularly used for treating heavy metal poisoning. When injected Intravenously EDTA grabs heavy metals like aluminium, mercury, lead, arsenic, iron and copper and removes them out of the body. Chelation therapy has begun in 1930’s when a German chemist synthesised ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA). Later on DMSA replaced EDTA and BAL as a treatment for mercury, lead and arsenic poisoning. Calcium disodium EDTA has been studied for treating coronary disease. It is used in alternative medicine to treat ailments like Autism and heart disease.
Some of the methods of chelation therapy are:
- Vitamin C
- Platelet-rich plasma therapy
Most people are aware of the fact that Vit C is a very powerful antioxidant which increases the resistance to infections by boosting the immune system. One other very important role Vitamin c plays when administered high doses of vitamin c iv infusions could kill cancer cells. Vitamin C interacts with other metals and iron to create hydrogen peroxide which at high doses damages the DNA of the cancer cells. At high doses, vitamin C doesn’t damage healthy cells and is effective in treating many types of cancer. The side effects of this intravenous treatment are less and are temporary.
It is a substance found in fruits, vegetables and in meats. Glutathione is naturally produced in the liver in the human body. It is an important antioxidant. Glutathione is used in treating and preventing diseases like cancer, heart diseases, aging, asthma, hepatitis, liver diseases, osteoarthritis, memory loss and Alzheimer’s. Glutathione can be taken by mouth, or as shots given by health care providers in preventing side effects of cancer treatments and are also given intravenously. Glutathione injections side effects have not been reported, but long term use of glutathione reduces the zinc levels in the body.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy
Super concentrated platelets accelerated the healing of tissue that is injured. Prp platelet rich plasma therapy therapy help heal the body by delivering the platelets that the body needs to repair the tissue damage. In this therapy to create PRP, a sample of person’s blood is drawn and is centrifuged and platelets separated from the plasma by the lab technician and high concentration of platelets are injected into the injured site which jump-starts the healing process. Since they use the person’s own blood there is no risk of allergic reaction or transmission of infections.
