Chelation Therapy is the most common therapy used today, to remove heavy metal poisonings from the blood stream. It is applied through the intravenous interjections of Ethylene Diamine Tetra-acetic Acid known as EDTA. This binds the heavy metals together so that they can be excreted in the urine. This is one of many chelating agents.

Succimer is the chelating agent approved by the FDA for removal of lead poisoning. This drug combines the metals in the bloodstream with its own metals. Then both metals are removed from the kidneys and then excreted.

That’s the thing to keep in mind. Others go out of business.

Are the Uses of Chelation Therapy Fact or Unproven Theories?

Chelation therapy is mostly used to treat heavy metal poisoning where it has been effective. Physicians acknowledge that these claims that don’t hold any science testing or proof to them. Here are three of them that are lacking any proof of medical science to them:

  • EDTA chelation might remove calcium found in the fatty walls of arteries decreasing heart disease.
  • Chelation Therapy may escalate the release of the hormone that causes calcium to be removed that in turn lowers cholesterol levels.
  • Chelation Therapy could reduce the damaging effects of the oxygen ions that will reduce inflammation of the arteries and improve blood vessel function.

There are no tests to prove any connection to these other than Chelation Therapy has been been working against metal poisoning.
