HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin and it is a very popular diet that has been around for quite some time now. Thousands of people have used it to drop as much as 100 pounds in a relatively short amount of time.
With so much hype around the HCG diet, more and more people are starting to wonder what its all about. Below you will find a brief overview of how the diet works and any side effects you should be aware of.
How Does The HCG Diet Work?
Created by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950’s, the HCG diet works by triggering a specific hormone to release stored fat. When you combine your bodies natural ability to burn fat with the HCG diet side protocol, you have a recipe for rapid weight loss.
The program is broken down into phases. The three HCG diet phases are as follows:
Phase I – The Loading Phase
The loading phase is the initial phase and it will last 2 days. During this phase you will consume as much food as you can without going over 2000 calories a day. You will also take 10 HCG drops 3 times per day. This phase is preparing your body for the next phase.
Phase II – The Maintenance Phase
The maintenance phase is the weight loss phase. Depending on how much weight you want to lose, it can last anywhere between 21 and 40 days. During this phase you will eat 500 calories per day along with 10 HCG drops 3 times per day. During this phase you will not be able to consume fried food, sugar or starch.
Phase III – The Stabilization Phase
This is the final phase and there will be no drops. This phase will last 21 days and you will gradually increase your calories to between 800 and 1000 calories per day.
The three phases will last at minimum of 44 days. During that time you can lose close to 35 pounds.
